How to Get
to the Tufts Chemistry Department
NOTE: Even though our mailing address is 62
Talbot Avenue, Medford MA, for most GPS systems the address is 62 Talbot
Avenue, Somerville, MA.
From the southwest, west,
and northwest via Routes 2, 3, 9, Interstate 95, or the Massachusetts Turnpike
(Interstate 90), exit onto the Boston circumferential, Route 128 (Interstate
95), and proceed to its intersection with Route 2 (exit 29A). Proceed east on
Route 2 to the junction of Routes 2 and 16. Turn left onto Route 16 east
(Alewife Brook Parkway). Follow Route 16 through two full traffic lights. Take
the next right, a sharp turn, onto Powderhouse Boulevard. Proceed to Packard
Avenue, the third left. Turn left onto Packard Avenue and then take the first
right turn onto Talbot Avenue. Chemistry is on the right, just beyond the next
intersection.
From Boston, the south, and
the South Shore, follow the Southeast Expressway (Route 3 north) to
Interstate 93 north to exit 31 (Mystic Valley Parkway). [See Map
1 Below] At the fork, take the right (sign reads Medford Square) At the
lights in the square, take a left on Main Street and continue down Main Street
to the lights a Harvard Street, take a right on Harvard Street. At the end of
Harvard Street is Powder House Rotary. Tufts athletic field is at the rotary.
Keeping the field to the right, proceed up Powder House Blvd to the lights at
Packard Avenue. [See Map 2 Below] Take the right onto
Packard Avenue and proceed up the hill to Talbot Avenue. Turn right onto Talbot
Avenue. The Chemistry Department (Pearson and Michael Laboratory Buildings) is
on the right, just after the next intersection.
From the north via Routes 1,
3, Interstates 95 or 93, the recommended approach is via Route 128
(Interstate 95), to its intersection with Interstate 93. Go south on Interstate
93 to exit 32, Medford Square. Proceed to the center of the square, turn left
onto Main Street, and refer to the directions in the preceding paragraph.*
From Logan Airport by subway,
board the airport shuttle bus to the Airport Station on the MBTA
Blue Line. Take the Blue Line inbound to Government Center; then change to the
Green Line westbound and go to Park Street station. Change again to the Red Line
outbound to Davis station and board either the 96 (Medford Square) or the 94
(West Medford) bus to Tufts.
From Logan Airport by car,
follow signs for the Sumner Tunnel ($3) and Boston as you leave the airport.
Proceed through the tunnel in the left lane. Follow signs for Interstate 93
north. Follow the directions "From Boston" above.
From the bus
terminals located on Atlantic Avenue and the Amtrak terminal in South
Station, Boston, follow signs to the MBTA
Red Line South Station subway trains. Board an inbound train to Davis station.
Board either the #96 (Medford Square) or the #94 (West Medford) bus, which will
take you to Tufts.
From the Davis Square T Station,
head north on College Avenue for about 7 blocks. At the rotary go across but a
bit to the left, continuing on College Avenue. Continue to walk for about
another 1000 ft (Tufts will be on your left) past the field and parking lot, and
turn left at Talbot Avenue. Continue down Talbot for about 500 ft, the
Pearson Chemistry Laboratory
will be on your left (62 Talbot Avenue). The distance is about a 7 minute walk.
