General Chemistry Major

The General Chemistry major is intended for those with an interest in chemistry whose career aspirations lie outside the realm of professional chemistry.  This Chemistry major, though not certified by the American Chemical Society, gives the student a foundation in chemistry while allowing for greater flexibility in choosing additional electives.

Requirements - Foundation: Chemistry: 1 (or 11 or 16) and 2 (or 12); Core: Chemistry: 31, 33, 42, 51, 53; and three additional courses in either intermediate or advanced chemistry numbered higher than 16 (except 91 and 94).  Only one course of undergraduate research, specifically CHEM 92, Research II, may be counted toward the three additional courses in intermediate or advanced chemistry. Two approved related field courses must be taken.

Chemistry majors with a pre-medical focus should also take Biology 13 and 14 with labs in their second or third year and should take CHEM 52/54 as their first CHEM UL course.
