The General Chemistry major is intended
for those with an interest in chemistry whose career aspirations lie outside
the realm of professional chemistry. This Chemistry major, though not
certified by the American Chemical Society, gives the student a foundation
in chemistry while allowing for greater flexibility in choosing additional
electives.
Requirements -
Foundation:
Chemistry: 1
(or 11
or 16)
and 2
(or 12);
Core:
Chemistry: 31,
33,
42,
51,
53;
and three additional courses in either intermediate or advanced chemistry
numbered higher than 16 (except 91 and 94). Only one course of undergraduate research,
specifically CHEM
92, Research II, may be counted toward the three additional courses
in intermediate or advanced chemistry. Two approved related field
courses must be taken.
Chemistry majors with a pre-medical focus should
also take
Biology 13 and 14 with labs
in their second or third year and should take CHEM
52/54
as their first CHEM UL course.
