Undergraduate Student Ambassadors
Introductory coursework in Chemistry typically involves large lecture courses where students can feel disconnected from each other, their instructors, and the Chemistry department at large. To foster a spirit of community and collaboration, the Chemistry Ambassadors program seeks to encourage connections between undergraduates (especially those in our large introductory courses) by engaging our current Majors and Minors as a centerpiece of a supportive and inclusive department culture. Our Chemistry Ambassadors are a dedicated group of students—all with declared Majors or Minors in the Chemistry Department—who are eager to help their peers navigate the Chemistry program, including course selection, choice of Major or Minor, and opportunities for independent research.
The Chemistry Ambassadors program is meant to supplement, not replace, the formal advising system for Tufts undergraduates. So, to make the most of your Chemistry-related Major or Minor, and your experience at Tufts, we hope you’ll use this program to establish connections with students in department of Chemistry in addition to your Faculty Academic Advisor.
If you prefer to reach the ambassadors by email for any questions about Chemistry Majors or Minors, please contact us at chemambassadors@tufts.edu.
Nikita Bhat
Hi! My name is Nikita! I am a junior from Bedford, New Hampshire majoring in ACS-certified chemistry and biotechnology. On campus, I stay busy with the club gymnastics team (go TGT!), writing for the Undergraduate Breakthrough Journal, and being part of the Kumar research group. I also like hiking, crocheting, and watching my favorite shows on repeat. I am really interested in organic and medicinal chemistry, and I hope to work in the pharmaceutical industry in the future!
Omar Bou Aram
Hi! My name is Omar Bou Aram. I am a junior from Manlius, New York, majoring in ACS-certified chemistry and mathematics. For the longest time, I have had a passion for chemistry and mathematics, and I couldn't choose between them nor did I want to. On campus, I am involved with Doctors without Borders activities, studying, and actively working in the Sykes lab. I am very interested in pharmacology and catalysis as I am currently working towards achieving my goal of studying medicine. I look forward to answering any questions you have about chemistry major/minor, course recommendations, study plans, research or being on the pre-med track as a chem major or minor.
Tomas Carreno
Hi! My name is Tomas. I'm from the Boston area majoring in biochemistry on the pre-medical track. Ever since I was little, I was interested in how life worked at the cellular level and finally had the chance to immerse myself in this area of study at Tufts. When I'm not studying, I'll be lifting weights at the gym, reading a history book, or spending time with friends. I'm more than happy to answer any questions about chemistry at Tufts!
Nisha Poungpeth
Hey! My name is Nisha and I’m a junior studying biochemistry. I’m from Chiang Mai, Thailand but have also lived in Dilijan, Armenia. At Tufts I’m part of the Legacy Project, the Thai Students Association, and the Kritzer Lab where I get to explore compounds that target cellular pathways involved in diseases like cancer. In my free time you can find me soaking up the sun, reading a good book, petting dogs left and right, or on the hunt for local vintage stores and other places to thrift. I’m also a huge foodie, so I’d love to chat about anything yummy or science related!
Rebecca Rios-Lazo
Hi! My name is Rebecca Rios-Lazo, I'm a Junior majoring in Chemistry here at Tufts originally from Los Angeles, CA! I have a huge passion for science and chemistry, and I plan to look into grad schools after I graduate. When I'm not studying for exams or working on assignments, I'm usually binging my favorite tv shows, reading books, or listening to music. I’m very excited to be a Chemistry Ambassador, and I look forward to meeting potential new Chemistry students and discussing any questions about the major/minor with those interested!
Annabelle Wu
Hi! My name is Annabelle and I'm a junior from New Jersey majoring in ACS Chemistry. I love the complexity and challenge that the major has to offer, and it's been a fascinating journey into the world of atoms and molecules. My other interests include literature, travel, and chemistry education research :) I'm so excited to connect with others who are passionate about chemistry and to help students any way I can!
Elizabeth Gallop
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Gallop, and I am a Sophomore from Seattle, WA studying ACS chemistry. I absolutely love chemistry and research in the Utz lab campus outside of my classes and involvement with Tufts sex health reps (SHR). Throughout my studies I have been interested in other fields like chemical engineering and biochemistry, but I ultimately landed on a major in chemistry due to my appreciation for the topic and its complexities. If anyone has any questions about the Tufts chemistry I would be delighted to talk!
Katie Sat
Hi! I am Katie Sat, a sophomore from New York City studying chemistry. I chose chemistry because I really enjoy thinking through problems and trying to understand how everyday things work. In my free time, I love dancing and watching movies to unwind. I'm also involved with Women in Medicine on campus. I am always happy to talk about chemistry as a major or minor and what it's like to be a student in the department!
